During the mid to late 50’s, Walter Krato Sr. worked for machine shops such as Atlas Tool and Quincy Speaker. In 1959, having the desire and drive to be his own boss, he bought a small machine shop converted from a mechanic’s garage. So small, the forklift had to be pulled out each morning to walk around.
Years went by, business was booming, and Krato Products needed to expand. Not to mention, the small building was being sold to the City of Jennings as a new Police Station. Walter Sr. decided to move the business to 3307 N. Broadway in 1974, doubling in size. They continued to grow until 1980 when Krato Products bought their present location at 3300 N. Florissant.
Since the beginning, Walter Sr. had Walter Jr. at his side learning the business from the ground up. In 1985, Walter Jr. was appointed as the new president of Krato Products. During his reign, Krato Products continued to grow. In 1994, Krato Products built a warehouse addition, proudly bringing them to the 36,000 sq. ft. they are today.
Walter Sr. and Jr. established a successful and prosperous business that would carry on the Krato name for many years to come. In July 1995, Walter Krato Sr. passed away at the age of 75. Following in June 2006, Walter Jr. passed away at the age of 65.
Ron Krato Sr took the helm after brother, Walter Jr passed. He remained president until his retirement at the end of 2012 when we celebrated his 70th birthday and his 50th year with Krato Products.
After Ron Krato Sr. retired the two youngest brothers Mark & Terry took over and ran the company together until Mark passed away September 2022. Terry is now the sole survivor of Krato Products and is running the company along with his nephew Ron Krato Jr. who has been working at Krato Products for over 30 years.
Terry started working at Krato Products in 1978 and has 46 year of experience and has continued to build the company to where it is today.
